Locating Rings can be used when the seat in the Bearing Housing is wider than the bearing and no axial displacement of the bearing on its seat is desired. This is required for locating bearing arrangements and when a CARB toroidal roller bearing is used in the housing. 

SKF FRB series and TIMKEN SR series Locating Rings are used to secure a Bearing in Place in the bearing housing on both sides of the shaft. Locating rings are identified with the Prefix ' FRB' followed by the width and the Outside diameter. SR series locating rings usually use "x" to indicate the OD and width.

E.g an Outside Diameter of 215mm and a Width of 5mm gives the part number FRB 5/215 or Also FRB 5.215.

E.g an Outside Diameter of 250mm and a Width of 15mm gives the part number SR 250x15.

FRB (SR) series locating rings are made of steel as a standard, with aluminium also available.
